The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that the Congress should clarify the truth behind allegations of it selling party tickets during the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections. BJP State spokesman and MLA Vinod Chamoli also cited the allegations being levelled by a former Congress leader at the Pradesh Congress Committee president Gandesh Godiyal, stating that as a political party the BJP is bound to expose flaws in the opposition.
Addressing the media at the party’s State headquarters on Monday, Chamoli said that the Congress should reveal publically which tickets were sold in the 2022 elections and which 25 have been allegedly booked for the 2027 polls. Citing a viral video regarding money dealins of the Pradesh Congress Committee president, he challenged the party leadership to question him as to where the amount was used.
“A social worker and former Congress leader has levelled serious allegations at PCC chief Ganesh Godiyal and the party leadership. She has also spoken about some money transactions with him. Regarding the money which changed hands in their dealings and the sum she talks about having given to the Congress, it should be clarified if the money was used for party work or personal use. Though this is the Congress’ internal matter, one hopes that they will seriously consider how the money was utilised,” Chamoli said.
He further said that it has been alleged that 18 party tickets were sold during the previous Assembly polls and that the deal of 25 tickets has been done for the 2027 polls. Terming it a shameful matter, he said that it is unfortunate that the Congress had neither rejected these allegations nor taken any action in the matter. Responding to Congress linking the lady levelling the allegations, to the BJP, Chamoli said that as a rival political party, the BJP is bound to raise the issue if any person levels serious allegations at the Congress and the PCC chief.
