BJP says Congress ignores MLAs’ choice in leadership selection

The Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that in Congress, leaders are not chosen according to the wishes of its own MLAs, a fact that became clear after former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat’s recent remarks.
BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that Rawat’s statement that he had majority support among MLAs but was still not made chief minister exposes the internal functioning of the Congress party. He stated that this reflects a system where leadership is imposed rather than decided democratically. He said that Congress leaders and workers have little say in decision-making and this is a long standing practice in the party.
He added that Rawat had accepted leadership under former CMs Narayan Datt Tiwari and Vijay Bahuguna in the past, showing his pursuit of power despite being aware of the party’s internal system. Chauhan said that people remember Rawat’s role during earlier Congress governments, including protests and the use of letters to challenge leadership. He said that Rawat’s politics showed that he never accepted Bahuguna as CM.
According to him, the public has not forgotten those events and does not trust Rawat’s claims. He said that Rawat has often presented himself as a victim but even within Congress many do not accept this narrative. Rawat’s attempts to highlight issues like the demand for a Muslim university or visits to religious places were political strategies and now he is trying to project injustice against him to regain ground, he added.
