Agriculture minister leaves for Assam to study tea production, marketing

The State Agriculture minister Ganesh Joshi left for the country’s major tea producing State Assam on a five day visit on Wednesday with the objective of expanding tea production and strengthening a better marketing system in the State.
During this period, Joshi will visit major tea plantations of Assam and will make a detailed study of the production capacity, processing and marketing system. As part of the tour programme, he will meet local tea producers, exporters and experts and will get suggestions for improving the quality of tea and strengthening the marketing in Uttarakhand.
During the tour, the minister will also inspect the modern tea factories of Assam and observe the latest technologies being adopted there aside from interacting with the factory owners and discussing the possibilities of technological up-gradation in Uttarakhand.
This visiting team from Uttarakhand includes Karnaprayag MLA Anil Nautiyal, Salt MLA Mahesh Jeena, Tea Board vice-president Maheshwar Singh Mahara, agriculture secretary S N Pandey, Tea Development Board and director Mahendra Pal. Besides, a tea farmer Bansat Joshi is a member of the team.
