Centre releases Rs 461 crore for treatment of roads in landslide affected Uttarkashi & Pithoragarh

 The Union government has released a sum of Rs 461 crore to Uttarakhand for treatment and repair of the roads in the landslide affected areas of the State. The union ministry of Road Transport and Highways has released Rs 233 crore for treatment of roads in 17 landslide affected areas on the National Highway 134 in Uttarkashi district and Rs 228 crore for repair of three sensitive spots on Tawaghat- Ghatiyabagad section of NH 09 in Pithoragarh district.

Expressing gratitude to the Union minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for the assistance, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the financial assistance will provide a new strength to the road infrastructure and help in ensuring safety of the travellers in the State. He said that the initiative will also help in reducing the risk of disaster and help in making travel to the inaccessible and border areas of the State easy.

The CM said that the NH- 134 which is an important road of the Char Dham Yatra route and connects Dharasu with the Yamunotri shrine is sensitive for landslides. The pilgrims face problems due to landslide triggered traffic disruptions. The proposed work will help in stabilising the section which will make the Char Dham Yatra safer and more accessible. 

The CM said that the continuous effort is being made by State and Union governments to strengthen the road network in the State.  The approval of Rs 461 crore by Centre is an important step in the direction of wholesome development, encouraging tourism and strengthening disaster management capacity, the CM said.
