Frequent power cuts: Jhabrera MLA cuts off electricity supply to officials’ houses

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Haridwar

With the people reeling under frequent, unannounced power-cuts, the Jhabrera MLA Virendra Jaati took it upon himself to take the collective anger into the residences of the Power department officials. He himself was seen climbing a ladder and cutting the power lines to the delighted stupefaction of those who chanced to view the spectacle.

The people living within the Jhabrera Assembly constituency limits said that they have been suffering from unannounced power outages for a long time. “Power outages continue for hours and disrupt our normal life. We informed the department officers multiple times about our plight, but things have not improved a bit,” complained one of the locals.

The local people said that the MLA’s actions were justified. According to them, Jaati, too, had taken the matter to the department officers a number of times.  “Still, the situation did not improve,” a local said. They said that the MLA had taken the drastic step in a fit of frustration.    “His logic is quite simple. If the common people keep on suffering long spells of power outages the officials should be made to suffer too,” the local added.

A few people, however, opined that the MLA should not have gone that far.

His supporters have, however, lent full support to their leader. “This is how he expressed his empathy with the people he represents,” said one of them.
