SCPCR directs border districts to check child trafficking

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) chairwoman Geeta Khanna said that under the “Child Trafficking Se Aazadi 3.0” campaign in collaboration with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), she has directed the deputy commissioners and district magistrates of all border districts to initiate this campaign in observance of World Anti-Human Trafficking Day. This effort aims to raise public awareness about the serious crime of child trafficking, which is recognised annually during a dedicated month as part of the Prevention of Child Trafficking campaign.
Khanna told officials about the importance of disseminating information regarding the prevention of child trafficking through banners, posters and public announcements in Hindi, English or regional languages. These materials should be placed in key public locations such as bus stands, railway stations, and markets. Additionally, it is crucial to inform children about the risks of trafficking, preventive measures and the necessary actions to take in case of an incident.
She also informed that she has sent a letter to the Indian Railway minister and the Transport minister, suggesting that special monitoring of minor children’s travel on Indian Railways be implemented. This would include making it mandatory for guardians to provide their names, identification details, and contact information when reserving seats for children, both online and offline. Further, railway ticket inspectors should receive specialised training to ensure they are equipped to handle situations involving minors, thereby effectively reducing incidents of child trafficking.
