Govt school faculty to be felicitated for enrolling their children in Govt schools

MANSI BHAMBRI /Dehradun

With the authorities having failed so far to build trust in government schools, the Education department in Bageshwar department is planning to provide incentive to government school faculty members if their offspring are studying in a government school.

As part of the initiative, the department will felicitate government school teachers whose children are enrolled in government schools. Secondary Education director Vinod Simalti appreciated the move, saying it will set an example for others.

Elaborating on the initiative, Bageshwar chief education officer, in-charge Asharam Chaudhary said the focus has always been on increasing student footfall in government schools. However, a frequent question raised is whether the staff in these government institutions find these fit enough to get their children enrolled. “We have planned this to address this and boost enrolment in government schools in Bageshwar district. Faculty members of government schools whose children are studying in government schools will be felicitated,” he said.

He said that an order will be issued soon directing principals of government schools in the district to identify such teachers and provide details including their name, their children’s name, class and school name through the WhatsApp group already created. The identified teachers will then be honoured, he added.

Simalti said that there are 2,295 government schools in the State, including 910 high schools and 1,385 intermediate schools. About 3,38,785 students are enrolled in government schools, including 1,52,575 boys and 1,86,210 girls.

Terming the Education department’s initiative in Bageshwar appreciable and exemplary, he said that he plans to issue a letter to CEOs of all districts in the State to follow a similar initiative to boost enrolment in government schools.
