Wind blowing in Congress party’s favour: Selja

While addressing a press conference here on Friday regarding Saturday’s scheduled public meeting of the Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani, the party’s national general secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge, Kumari Selja said that a strong wind is blowing in favour of the Congress in the state. “The people are disillusioned with the policies and performance of the BJP government,” she asserted.
Referring to the success of Rahul Gandhi’s connect to the youth during his recent Uttarakhand visit- Chhatraon Ki Goonj-she said that the programme had sent a positive message across the country. “This is all the more remarkable in view of the BJP government going all-out to gag the voice of the youth, students and the opposition leaders. “They are shying away from discussion on important issues in the Parliament,” she said.
Selja further claimed that Congress has remained consistent in raising issues pertaining to atrocities on students, paper leaks and mounting unemployment. Expressing deep concerns over repeated paper leaks in Uttarakhand, she said that these have endangered the future of the youth. “Corruption is rampant in the state and the disillusioned people have resolved for a change during the upcoming Assembly elections,” she averred.
Speaking of the organisational rejig of the state Congress, she stated that the State Congress Committee and various committees have been formed to strengthen the party from grassroots.
The leader of the opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya said that the BJP government has completely failed the people on all fronts during its ten years’ tenure with particular stress laid on growing crimes against women and deepening corruption culture.
Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara alleged widespread irregularities in the polyhouse scheme. “The scheme, launched to increase farmers’ income, had a target of installing thousands of polyhouses every year, but very few have been built as per the standards,” he said.
The Congress leaders claimed that Kharge’s public meeting in Haldwani on Saturday would be historic and would inject new energy into the Congress’s election campaign in the state.
