Announcing that compensation might also be given for the stone-roofed houses as well as those built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in case of natural calamity, the district magistrate, Chamoli, Gaurav Kumar said on Friday that a survey had been initiated in the town in this matter following the 2023 land subsidence.
“The administration paid compensation for the damaged concrete houses, but payments for the old stone roofed houses in the mountainous areas, as well as those built under the Rajiv Awas Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana schemes, have not yet been made. With the people demanding reimbursement, we initiated a survey. Once the survey is completed, we will send the report to the government. Once it is cleared, the-calamity affected families living in stone-roofed houses as well as those built under the housing schemes rolled out by the Centre might receive compensation,” he added.
