To facilitate safer and smoother travel of the tourists, the Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted a proposal worth Rs 1.52 crore to the State government for constructing a two-lane road stretching about 87 km from Ramnagar to Kainchi Dham via Betalghat. If cleared, the project will be executed jointly by the Ramnagar, Ranikhet and Nainital divisions. Out of the total stretch, 44.25 km falls under the Ramnagar division, 30.5 km under Nainital and about 2 km under Ranikhet.
The executive engineer, Sanjay Chauhan said that bridges would also be constructed along the road to ensure safety of the travellers particularly over rivers/rivulets that tend to swell during monsoon.
Once completed, the new road will provide an alternative route for tourists traveling from Dehradun to Kainchi Dham via Corbett National Park and Ramnagar, reducing the travel time with the elimination of the need to pass through generally congested Haldwani. “This route will reduce the travel distance by nearly 30 km,’ a senior PWD officer said.
