Dehradun markets buzz as Muslims shop for Eid-ul-Adha

With Eid-ul-Adha approaching, markets in Dehradun are witnessing shoppers from the Muslim community thronging the markets. Crowds have been observed at major market areas in Dehradun including the Paltan Bazaar and Jhanda Bazaar as people make preparations for the festival. Shopkeepers have also reported a notable rise in footfall at their establishments.
Resident Saba Khan said her family has begun all preparations for the festival. She said that with Eid only a few days away, she has purchased new clothes, home decoration items and gifts for friends. She added that most preparations are complete, with only mehendi application and certain food preparations remaining for the day before Eid.
Another localite Rehan stated he has been visiting the city markets to complete Eid preparations. He said he celebrates the occasion with friends and family every year and has similar plans this year. He said that shopping for clothes, ingredients for special meals and other items is almost finished.
Meanwhile, shopkeepers in the market areas appeared pleased with increased sales. Rohit, who runs a readymade garment store said that sales typically decline in summer as people avoid going out in the heat. However, with Eid approaching, footfall at his shop has risen as people are buying clothes and other items for the occasion, boosting business, he added.
