Dhankhar exhorts students to have bigger aims in life, inculcate nationalism

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said that students should not have narrow and self-centered aims. They should also have aims which align with society and humanity along with nation building. Dhankar was speaking at the conclusion of the 156th foundation day celebrations at Sherwood College here on Friday.
The Vice President exhorted the students to inculcate the sense of the nation being foremost. He stressed on the need for accepting nationalism without any conditions as this is the minimum expectation of Bharat- a nation with a cultural heritage of thousands of years. Dhankhar said that quality education, its reach and affordability is a fundamental for any democratic nation. “Education is a boon from god and you are fortunate if you receive quality education. Education is a great equaliser. Whether it be in the law or elsewhere, equality in its supreme form can be achieved only through education. Education hits hard on inequality and injustice and this is what you will be doing throughout your life,” he said. Referring to the nation’s recent journey and the target of Viksit Bharat, he said that the nation is not talking only about literacy in this century. Literacy was important for the nation a long time ago as today India is not just a nation of possibilities. He said that the manner in which teachers are nurturing the talent of their students, the possibilities in India are being executed practically every day. Stating that India is an emerging nation, he said that this rise is a continuous process. Exhorting the youngsters to work as motivators of change, the Vice President said that the world is looking towards India not only because of its progress, scientific development and infrastructural development but also of its unique demographic dividend.
Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and the school principal Amandeep Sandhu also addressed the gathering. Longview Public School principal Bhuwan Tripathi, St Mary’s Convent College principal Manju Shah, Birla Vidya Mandir principal Anil Sharma, St Joseph’s College principal Sebastian George and Asha Foundation chairperson Asha Sharma were also present on the occasion.
