The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the decision of the Uttarakhand High Court regarding the Panchayat elections. Stating that this will clear the way for election of the rural government, the BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt alleged that the Congress was trying to create hurdles in the election process while accusing the government of not holding the polls. However, the HC decision has come as a slap on the face of Congress, he said.
Bhatt said that the government, public and BJP have all been in favour of holding the elections since the start. The government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made efforts to ensure a fair and transparent election according to public sentiments. However, the Congress created hurdles in the process aimed at ensuring a fair and transparent election process. “The Congress fielded an army of advocates in the court but its intention could not be achieved after all the facts were presented in the court. This is a victory of the Dhami government’s transparent and pro-public efforts,” the BJP State president claimed.
He further said that the panel of names of the candidates supported by the party has been received and that soon the BJP will formally declare their names. Reiterating respect for the court, he expressed confidence that new dates for the Panchayat will be announced soon by the election commission.
On being asked about the possibility of the weather affecting the Panchayat polls, the BJP State president said that the public, government and party are dedicatedly involved in the Panchayat polls. The BJP is hopeful that there will be relief from the rain and that the polling percentage will also rise.
