NSUI rejects ABVP’s claim on sweeping student union elections

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Rejecting the claim made by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) about a clean sweep in the recent student union elections in the State, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has said that its candidates registered victories in a large number of colleges.
Interacting with the media-persons at headquarters of the State Congress here on Monday the State president of NSUI Vikas Negi said the elections were conducted in 96 colleges out of whom elections were cancelled in four. He claimed that NSUI candidates became victorious on the post of presidents in 34 colleges while independent candidates won in 18. Negi said that ABVP has claimed that its candidates became presidents in 58 student unions of 58 colleges, which is false.
He said that with the help of administration, the government cancelled the elections in the colleges where it feared about losing the elections. The elections were cancelled in Government College Gopeshwar and Rudraprayag.
Negi claimed that incidents of irregularities in elections have been reported by the NSUI candidates from many colleges. He said that the Police registered no FIR in the firing incident in Rudrapur and burning of vehicles of NSUI workers by ABVP goons. Police resorted to Lathi charge without provocation in DBS College so that the NSUI could not take out the victory procession.
The national convenor of the NSUI Pradeep Bisht, newly elected president of DBS College Harsh Rana and others attended the press conference.
