The director general of Information Banshidhar Tiwari has filed a formal police complaint regarding the alleged fake posts and misinformation being circulated against him on social media. He has requested legal action against those involved in attempts to tarnish his image.
In his letter to Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh, Tiwari stated that certain individuals are spreading baseless allegations on social media as part of a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation. He said that such actions have affected his social standing and urged police to identify the people behind the posts and take action.
He stated in the letter that he has submitted screenshots of the posts and fake IDs to the police. The SSP has also confirmed receiving the complaint and said that the matter has been handed over to the Cyber Cell for investigation. The cell is tracing the sources of the fake IDs and the origin of the posts, he said.
Tiwari has claimed that the content circulated on social media appeared to be shared in a planned manner. The Cyber Cell will investigate the matter and act under relevant sections of the IT Act and others. Since the issue concerns not only Tiwari’s personal image but also the credibility of the State’s Information and Public Relation department, Tiwari has appealed to the police to take strict action against those responsible for spreading misinformation about him.
It is pertinent to mention here that some media outlets have recently questioned the State government’s spending on advertisements during the past four years.
