Drug peddler held from Mori with around 1.5 kg hashish

Cracking down on drug trafficking during the Holi festival, Mori police arrested a man with hashish weighing 1 kg 348 gm worth around Rs 2.70 lakh in international market. Notably, as instructed by
the superintendent of police, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyay, special vigilance is being maintained across the district ahead of the festival. Police said that they are closely monitoring drug peddling, drunk driving and traffic violations among others.  

As part of the operation, an intensive checking campaign was conducted in the Mori area under the supervision of the deputy superintendent of police, Janak Singh Panwar and Mori station house officer, Deepak Rawat.

The drug trafficking accused was identified as Ayush Thakur, resident of Mehunwala, Vikasnagar, Dehradun,aged 22 years. Police arrested the accused on the spot and registered a case at Mori police station under some sections of the NDPS Act.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused is said to have revealed that he was planning to sell the hashish in Dehradun due to the increased demand for narcotics during Holi. Police are investigating the accused’s criminal history and are also searching for other individuals potentially involved in the smuggling network.

The SP stated that district police are fully alert to ensure a peaceful and safe Holi celebration. “Intensive checking will continue at border barriers and police checkpoints and strict action will be taken against those found involved in illegal activities,” Upadhyay said.
