Experts stress on practical Panchakarma therapy for benefits

Niramaya Yogam Research Foundation, Bhagwandas Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalay and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham jointly organised the 15th national workshop on the effect of Yogic-Panchkarma therapy on human health, which concluded on Sunday. Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Jaideep Arya said that education should be based on values, while stressing on the need for establishing a Yoga commission in Uttarakhand.
A practical session was held at Rishikesh Ayurvedic Medical College during which Dr Parul Sharma demonstrated Shirodhara and Nasya Karm while informing about its efficacy in treating stress, insomnia and migraine. Dr Namrata Bhatt spoke on the effect of Yogic practices on neuropsychology, stating that Pranayam and Dhyan help in controlling cortisol which improves mental balance. Yogacharya Dr Urmila Pandey said that Yoga and Ayurveda are the basis for lifestyle management. Yoga is beneficial only if done consistently with determination and dedication. She spoke on various Yogic exercises and their use in protecting health. Workshop patron Swami Santoshanand Dev said that Panchakarma is a means not only for cleaning the body but also the mind. Ayurveda and Yoga cannot be separated, he added.
