Congress veteran and former chief minister Harish Rawat reached Nehru Colony police station on Tuesday to file a complaint against alleged false and misleading propaganda being spread against him. He said that an AI-generated video is being circulated through the BJP’s official social media platforms with the intention of tarnishing his image.

Rawat told the police that the video contained objectionable words and images related to the Hindu and Muslim communities. He said that such content was creating confusion and tension between the two communities while hurting religious sentiments. He also alleged that the video falsely portrayed him as anti-national.

He told the media that BJP members were falsely accusing him of being a Pakistani spy and dubbing him anti-national. He stayed put at the police station for around two hours, but the FIR was not registered. Visibly annoyed, he said that if an FIR was not registered even in the case of a former chief minister, one could imagine the condition of an ordinary citizen under BJP rule. The FIR was registered after four hours.

The former CM said that he had learnt about the video on December 18 and claimed that it had been shared illegally with malicious intent. He demanded strict legal action against those involved in creating and spreading the video, saying it threatened social harmony and the unity of the country.

A large crowd had gathered outside the police station during the filing of the complaint.
