PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The chairperson of the election management committee of Uttarakhand Congress, Harak Singh Rawat has accused the State government of squandering and disposing off the land allotted for National Law University at Ranipokhari in Dehradun.
Addressing a press conference at the Rajiv Bhawan here on Wednesday, Rawat said the land for NLU was allotted during the tenure of chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. He said that a foundation stone of the NLU was also laid in presence of then CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, then Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat. The Congress leader said that in the last seven years not even a single brick has been laid in the alloted land and effort is being made to dispose of the land of NLU in the name of Tehri dam displaced. He said that the entire episode also highlights intense internal bickering in the ruling BJP. Rawat said it now appears that the announcement of NLU and foundation stone laying programme by former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat was a farce aimed at deceiving people ahead of the Lok Sabha elections of 2019. He said that the people of the area are suffering due to the game played by the BJP and they have started an agitation for NLU. Rawat said that the local Congress leaders are leading the agitation. He said that the police lathi charged the peaceful agitators and misbehaved with women which is highly objectionable. Rawat said that the Congress party is standing with the local people in demand for the construction of NLU in the allotted land.
