The opposition Congress said that if the party was voted to power in the 2027 Assembly election Gairsain would be made the permanent capital of Uttarakhand. The party veteran and former chief minister, Harish Rawat stated this on a social media post. He further claimed that the Congress when it was in power had worked hard to develop Gairsain. “Earlier, it was difficult to accommodate even 20 people; but later, during the Congress regime, the accommodation capacity increased manifolds. It became capable of accommodating 2500 people,” he said, adding that a budget of Rs 57 crore had been allotted to build infrastructure there.
He also took a dig at the BJP government in the State for dithering on fixing and announcing the sugarcane price. “The sugarcane growers have been suffering because of the State government’s apathy,” he added.
