Rahul Gandhi’s visit a mere formality, locals uninterested: BJP

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Uttarakhand visit was a mere formality, citing that inclement weather may have prevented him from visiting Almora and Pauri but he didn’t even stay where the weather was clear. Taking a dig, the BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt that there is still time left for the elections otherwise the BJP would have been blamed for the weather preventing Gandhi’s helicopter from reaching its destination. He opined that nobody was waiting for Gandhi except Congress members eager for a position.

Reacting to the Congress leader’s visit, Bhatt said, “Rahul Gandhi had to cancel his visits to Almora and Pauri due to bad weather, which is appropriate from the safety point of view. However, it is also true that the Congress and Gandhi are not assured of their political ground among the local public. The people of Devbhumi are disappointed with him for his anti-Sanatan statements while the ex-servicemen are unhappy with him for insulting the armed forces, especially calling the late general Bipin Rawat, who hailed from Pauri, a goonda.

He had realised that the locals, especially ex-servicemen, weren’t particularly enthusiastic about his visit in Almora and Pauri. This might probably be a reason for his abandoning even the rest of his planned activities under the pretext of bad weather in the mountains. He could have interacted with the public in the plains and then with the party workers in Dehradun on the next day,” he said.

“After cancelling his tour, he was talking about discussing the condition of Uttarakhand’s people along with subjects related to the economic, social and future aspects of the State. However, he has not left any chance to defame Uttarakhand and insult Sanatan so far. He spread confusion and lies on the prestige of Kedarnath and other sacred sites, opposed implementation of the UCC and efforts to check demographic change while spreading rumours about the law and order situation. Considering his post on X mentioning Mohammed Deepak’s gym in Kotdwar, it appears he was most disappointed at being unable to go there as he lost another chance for appeasement politics,” Bhatt added.
