Doon residents ditch LPG for induction cooking

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The recent issues being faced in the supply of LPG cylinders has led many Dehradun residents to adopt alternative cooking options like induction, with many choosing to continue using them long-term. Residents said that the shift, initially driven by necessity, has made cooking easier and reduced their LPG usage. The supply issues blamed on the West Asia conflict, has made these alternatives a lifesaver. As a result, residents plan to stick with them for part of their cooking in future too, citing the benefits.

Local resident Manju Kumari said that she had never used an induction before the recent shortage of LPG cylinders. However, this ongoing shortage has led her to switch to induction cooking. She said that she finds cooking with induction to be both easier and safer, as it also eliminates the risk of minor burns and other injuries. Kumari stated that this positive experience has convinced her to continue using alternative cooking methods in the future.

“The LPG cylinder shortage has encouraged residents to conserve energy. During this time, I had only one cylinder and faced challenges in obtaining a replacement. To save energy, I started cooking partially with the induction while still using the cylinder. During this time, I noticed that choosing induction cooking or any similar method isn’t a bad choice at all. I found using an induction to be more efficient than cooking with a gas stove, as it cooks food faster. Given this advantage, I’ve decided to continue using induction for my cooking in the future,” said Sakshi Sharma.

Another resident, Vineet Chandola said that every experience brings valuable lessons and adjustments. Following the Covid 19 pandemic, the popularity of the internet and online methods has surged. Likewise, with the ongoing issues in supply of cooking gas cylinders, people have turned to alternative cooking methods, intending to maintain these choices in the future. He said that in his household, the speed and efficiency of induction and other electronic cooking appliances compared to traditional methods have led him to decide to keep using these alternatives, even beyond the current shortage situation.
