Harish Rawat warns agitation unless Bindukhatta impasse is resolved by April 30

Former chief minister Harish Rawat has said that the State government should provide ownership rights to residents of Bindukhatta, Bapugram, Pichudi, Bagjala and Bagga Chowan till April 30 this year. He said that if the government fails in this endeavour then the INDI alliance will intensify its agitation from May 1.

Addressing the Dharna attended by different constituents of the INDI alliance at Gandhi Park on Wednesday, Rawat said that the cabinet of the then Congress government had taken a decision to provide ownership rights to the residents of these Khattas on December 26, 2016. He said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has misled the people on the issue.

The leader of Samajwadi Party, S N Sachhan said that the government should work to protect the interests of the deprived sections of the society but in Uttarakhand the government is working to protect the interests of the capitalists. 

The Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Samar Bhandari said that the government intends to hand over all types of the land to the corporate houses.

The State secretary of CPI -ML, Indiresh Maikhuri said that the government is trying to usurp the land of the Bindukhatta and Bapugram by wrong interpretation of court orders and terrorising the local people. CPI M leader Surendra Sajwan said that the residents of slums are being forced to evacuate in the name of elevated roads.

A memorandum directed to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was handed over to the city magistrate by the leaders of the INDI alliance on the occasion. In the memorandum a demand to declare Bindukhatta, Bapugram, Puchdi, Bagga Chauvan and other Khattas revenue villages was made.
