Healthy and informed women to provide new direction to society: Governor

The Governor lieutenant general (Retd) Gurmit Singh said that only a healthy and informed woman can provide a new direction to society. He was speaking at the “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar” and the “Eighth National Nutrition Month” campaign at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) on Wednesday.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar” and “Eighth National Nutrition Month” campaign from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. During the event, he laid the foundation stone for several initiatives and addressed the audience. This campaign will run from September 17 to October 2, and it will be organised in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Community Health Centres (CHCs), District Hospitals and other government health facilities across the country. More than one lakh health camps will be organised and held daily in all government health centres nationwide. The governor, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and others attended the programme in a virtual mode from the GDMC on the day.
The governor described the campaign as a cornerstone for strengthening both families and society. He urged the public to actively participate in the campaign to ensure comprehensive health facilities reach every woman, allowing them to live a respectful, safe and healthy life. His vision reaffirms that India is rapidly moving towards becoming a developed nation, self-reliant and a global leader by 2047.
He opined that the progress made by Uttarakhand families, women’s self-help groups and production lines of local products in terms of quality, branding and packaging, when empowered by the mantra of Swadeshi, can indeed lead to a revolutionary change.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Dhami said that the country has made progress in all areas under the leadership of the PM. He acknowledged that Uttarakhand has received the PM support in various domains, including the Char Dham project and the expansion of air services. He pointed out that the PM has consistently supported Uttarakhand during times of disaster. He said that considering the launch of the “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar” campaign, the Health department has made extensive preparations for its implementation. He encouraged women of the State to take advantage of this campaign, which will continue until October 2. CM added that travel to Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri Dham has become smoother and soon the route to Yamunotri Dham will also be reopened for pilgrims.
The programme was also attended by cabinet ministers Dhan Singh Rawat, Rekha Arya, Lok Sabha MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, MLAs Khajan Dass, Vinod Chamoli, Savita Kapoor, Suresh Gadia, chief secretary Anand Bardhan, secretary R Rajesh Kumar and others.
