Police complaint filed: UJS orders internal investigation into teacher’s death

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Following a recent case filed against the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) for negligence resulting in the death of a 56-year-old teacher, senior officials of the department have ordered an internal investigation into the matter. They said that after the submission of the report, they would be in position to frame a strategy on what to do in the case.

Notably, a 56-year-old teacher, Vijay Lakshmi, had died on August 12 when part of the premises used by Jal Sansthan in a park suddenly gave way and crashed on her while she was out on evening walk. Following this incident, the deceased’s family has lodged a case against unidentified officials of UJS and the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun under section 106 of the IPC (death by negligence).

Commenting on the case, UJS officials said that upon learning of the case registered, they had immediately taken cognisance of the matter. They had asked the officers concerned to conduct an internal investigation into the incident and submit a report for further action. “Once the report is submitted, we will decide the necessary steps to be taken in response to the case,” an UJS officer said.

When told that the buildings need maintenance during the monsoon season, the UJS officers affirmed that they make sure that their infrastructure, including water storage cemented tanks, are well maintained not just during the monsoon season but all through the year. “We do not compromise on public safety and so the UJS administration directs the officials concerned to conduct annual maintenance of our buildings.  Further, each year an estimate for building maintenance is prepared,” said a senior UJS officer.
