Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) has claimed to have made all preparations for the Kanwad Yatra, commencing from July 30. Pertinently, UJS plays two key roles during the Yatra which are to ensure adequate water supply in public toilets and drinking water facilities along the route and treatment and disposal of liquid sewage waste generated during the event.
Sharing details of the final arrangements, UJS secretary (Appraisal), Maneesh Semwal, said all preparations have been finalised.
He informed that 92 water stand posts have been installed and 97 water tankers have been kept ready. To manage sanitation, 56 suction vehicles have been deployed. These vehicles will collect waste from toilets and transport it to Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for processing. He further informed that for drinking water in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Kotdwar and Neelkanth areas, 3,000-litre truck-mounted tankers will provide continuous supply along the Kanwad track.
Work on stand posts and tanks at Bairagi Camp, parking areas among others has also been completed. Fitters, helpers and field staff have been deployed to ensure 24×7 uninterrupted operations during the Yatra, he said.
Semwal added that for sewer management, 56 sewer suction vehicles and 25 cleaning supervisors will work in two shifts. The tender process for suction vehicles and related works has been completed and all arrangements in the Kanwad area are in place, he said.
He informed that the UJS has requested around Rs 3.14 crore from the Haridwar district administration to cover costs for these facilities and preparations.
The executive engineer (UJS) Vipin Chauhan informed that in Haridwar district, 65 water tankers have been deployed from Jatwara bridge to Mohammadpur Jhal, while 10 additional tankers have been kept ready for use if needed; arrangements have also been made to supply water to mobile toilets, he said.
