The Uttarakhand Police will conduct a statewide verification drive on the instructions of director general of police Deepam Seth to strengthen law and order and improve public safety. He said on Sunday that the campaign will be conducted in all districts at the circle, police station and outpost levels.

Seth said illegal migrants, especially infiltrators, Bangladeshi nationals and foreign citizens staying beyond their visa validity, will be identified and strict legal action will be taken under relevant laws.

Police teams, along with STF, SOG and the Local Intelligence Unit, will verify people living in rented houses, flats, PGs, hostels, hotels, guest houses, ashrams and multi-storey apartments. Property dealers and brokers will also be checked. Strict action will be taken against those who rent out rooms without police verification or provide shelter to suspicious persons.

He added that the drive will also focus on delivery agents of e-commerce companies, security guards, cab drivers and workers in industrial areas. The police will use modern technology and central databases to trace and identify suspicious individuals.

CCTV cameras installed in malls, coaching centres, gyms and residential areas will also be inspected to ensure they are working properly. The DGP said the main aim of the campaign is to create a fear-free environment and ensure the safety of women, senior citizens and local residents across the State.
