Man arrested for wife’s alleged dowry death

The police arrested the husband of a deceased woman for allegedly causing her death due to dowry harassment. The arrested accused has been identified as Sunil Jatav, a resident of Jatav Basti, Rishikesh.
The incident came to light on November 19, when the Rishikesh resident complainant filed a report at Kotwali Police Station. He stated that on November 18, his daughter was physically and mentally tortured by her husband, Sumit and her in-laws over ongoing dowry demands.
According to the complaint, these acts of harassment and violence led to her death. After receiving the report, the police immediately registered a case under section 80(2) BNS at Rishikesh Kotwali. Forming a team, the police began searching for the accused while also activating its local informants and using electronic surveillance to track the movement of the accused. According to the police, various locations were raided but the accused kept shifting to avoid arrest. Finally on Monday, the police received a tip-off from an informer that the accused was near an open ground close to the Old Railway Station Temple. Acting swiftly, the police reached the spot and arrested the accused husband, Sumit Jatav.
