Literature a reflection of cultural heritage, guides society’s thoughts: Governor

Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh inaugurated the 9th edition of the Valley of Words International Literature and Art Festival at a hotel here on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, the governor said that literature is a reflection of the cultural heritage which guides the thinking of the nation and society. “Today, there is a need to cultivate an environment of awareness, sensitivity and creativity towards literature and art among our children and youth. It is vital to highlight our national heritage, history, and culture through literature,’’ he said.

Congratulating the organisers for the successful organisation of the festival, the governor expressed confidence that the contemplation and brainstorming on this platform will prove beneficial for the society. He said such events are a powerful medium for communicating ideas, ideas and creative expression to society. He added that through the Valley of Words festival rich art, culture and literature of Uttarakhand are gaining new recognition on the national and international stage.

He said that in recent years, Dehradun has seen an increase in literary, art, and cultural activities, establishing a unique identity for the state at the national level. He added that providing useful discussion sessions and literary activities for the youth reflects the organisers’ vision and creativity. 

The two-day festival is being attended by numerous renowned literary figures, writers, artists and thinkers from India and abroad. 

The director of the Valley of Words, Sanjeev Chopra gave detailed information about the festival’s outline and objectives. Former MP Tarun Bansal, chairman of Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, Narendrajit Singh Bindra, PJS Pannu, Rajendra Dobhal, KBS Sidhu, Anoop Nautiyal and others attended the programme.
