MCD announces 5% rebate on early property tax payment

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) announced a five per cent rebate on property tax payments for the financial year 2026–27 for residents who deposit their dues within the first month of the financial year.

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said that the rebate will apply only to taxpayers who make their property tax payments during April. Residents who fail to deposit the amount within the stipulated period will not be eligible for the concession and will have to pay the full tax amount without any rebate. She said that the provision of an early-payment rebate is part of the corporation’s annual strategy to encourage timely tax compliance among property owners while strengthening revenue collection at the beginning of the financial cycle. Early inflow of revenue helps the civic body plan and implement development works more efficiently during the rest of the year.

Bansal also clarified that the rebate facility is available only for a limited period and will not be extended beyond the first month of the financial year under any circumstances. Property owners have therefore been advised to complete the payment process within the deadline to avoid missing the benefit.

She said that the property tax remains one of the primary sources of revenue for the MCD and plays a crucial role in supporting essential services, such as sanitation, road and drain maintenance, street lighting and other basic civic infrastructure across the city.

Bansal further urged residents to make use of both online and offline payment options available through the corporation to ensure the timely submission of dues. She added that early compliance by taxpayers helps improve the corporation’s financial planning and supports the execution of routine maintenance as well as development works in different wards of the city.

In 2025-2026, MCD collected around Rs 72 crore in revenue and is targeting Rs 100 crore in property tax collection this year.
