PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has intensified its ongoing anti-encroachment drive across the city. The objective of the drive is to reclaim government land from illegal occupation and constructions.
The civic body officials said that the campaign is being conducted with a ‘zero tolerance’ approach towards encroachments on public land. The focus, they added, is on clearing long-pending cases and preventing fresh illegal occupation.
As part of the drive, around 860 square metres of land in Nathanpur area was freed after an illegally constructed boundary wall was demolished. In Pari Vihar, four unauthorised houses were demolished too, bringing the land back under the control of the corporation.
Action was also taken in Brahmanwala Khala, where about 450 square metres of land was cleared and marked with boards indicating municipal ownership. In Kandoli, another 400 square metres of land was also reclaimed during the drive.
Furthermore, in Makkawala, the officials demolished illegal constructions on civic land, while in Nawada, encroachments on a municipal road, including gates and boundary walls, were removed to restore public access.
The officials from the land department stated that strict action would continue against any fresh encroachments and violations could invite penalties under relevant provisions. They also appealed to the residents to follow rules and cooperate with the administration. The civic body added that the drive would continue in the coming weeks as part of its efforts to keep public land free from illegal occupation.
