A minor girl was allegedly gang raped by three men in Champawat. The incident happened when she had gone to attend a friend’s mehendi ceremony. According to the police, a Class X student, she went to Salli village on Tuesday, about 20 kilometres from the district headquarters.
When she was about to return home, three men allegedly tricked her into a lonely place. Then, scaring her with a sharp weapon, they forced her into a room and took turns in raping her.
Late at night, around 1:28 AM, the family got a call from the girl’s mobile. But the phone was switched off immediately. The police were informed. A joint search was launched by the police and locals.
At around 4 AM on Wednesday, the police found the girl tied up inside a room. She was taken to the district hospital for medical tests.
The Champawat superintendent of police (SP), Rekha Yadav said that one of the accused had been arrested. “The police are interrogating him while the other two are still absconding. Police teams, including SOG, are looking out for them,” she added.
A case has been registered against all three accused based on the complaint filed by the survivor’s father.
