MCD removes 2,879 encroachments, issues 987 challans for littering

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) removed a total of 2,879 encroachments and recovered a fine of Rs 3,99,150 from violators between February 11 and March 9 as part of its anti-encroachment campaign.Acting on directions of mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and municipal commissioner Namami Bansal,

the civic body took action against encroachments in various parts of the city. The enforcement teams conducted inspections in various wards and market areas, removing temporary structures, roadside stalls and other unauthorised extensions that occupied public spaces.

The officials added that some locations were identified as sensitive zones where encroachments were found in larger numbers, prompting repeated monitoring and action by the municipal teams. Alongside the anti-encroachment campaign, the corporation also carried out enforcement against littering and improper waste disposal across the city. During the same period, the enforcement teams issued 987 challans and collected a total fine of Rs 4.44 lakh from individuals and establishments violating sanitation rules.

They said that the action was taken at multiple locations where people were found throwing garbage in public places, dumping waste at Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) and disposing of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste illegally. The teams also conducted inspections in market areas and residential localities to discourage open dumping and promote proper waste disposal practices.

The officials said that the drives are part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness and ensure better management of public spaces in the city. They added that similar enforcement actions will continue in the coming days to curb encroachments and improve sanitation standards across the municipal area.
