The Health department has deployed a medical team at the Dehradun airport to assess and treat the health condition of victims of the flash flood in Uttarkashi’s Dharali region. This information was shared by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma.
He stated that the health department is fully prepared to offer medical support to the victims of the said disaster. So far, over 112 individuals have been rescued from Dharali and brought to Dehradun Airport. In anticipation of this situation, they had already deployed medical teams at the airport to assess the victims’ health conditions and provide necessary treatment. He said that the majority of the 112 rescued individuals who arrived at the airport were tourists.
The medical team, consisting of two doctors, including Additional CMO Dr Pradeep Rana, along with other paramedical staff, conducted examinations of the victims. Out of the 112 individuals assessed, two were identified as needing proper medical treatment. Consequently, the team referred these two victims to SPS Government Hospital in Rishikesh. However, the two individuals declined to go to the hospital and this matter was subsequently escalated to the State administration, he said.
Additionally, he said that the medical team will be continuously present at the airport to examine victims as they arrive. He also said that three ambulance services have been made available at the airport, along with another ambulance stationed at the helipad in the Sahastradhara area of Dehradun.
Sharma said that, in addition to this, nine doctors from the Dehradun district, including those from district, sub-district hospitals and other facilities, have been sent to Uttarkashi. Further, 100 beds have been reserved for this purpose at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, along with this, beds have also been reserved at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and other locations. Additionally, the medical superintendent of the hospital has been instructed to ensure that the doctors remain on alert.
