PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The police have received official documents through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirming the Bangladeshi nationality of the man arrested in Dehradun on July 11 under Operation Kalnemi. Based on these documents, police have confirmed that the accused belongs to Tangail district in Bangladesh and will be deported after completing necessary legal procedures, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said.

He informed that the police from the Sahaspur police station arrested a man identified as Rukan Rakom alias Shah Alam, resident of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The 26-year-old was found moving around in the guise of an ascetic. During interrogation, he admitted to being a Bangladeshi citizen residing illegally in India. A case under the Foreigners Act was registered against him at the Sahaspur police station.

The SSP stated that at the time of arrest, the police did not recover any documents from the accused confirming his nationality. The police then contacted the Bangladeshi government through the MEA to verify his identity. Documents received in response confirmed that Rakom is a resident of Bangladesh. He said that based on this confirmation, the police will initiate the process to deport him to Bangladesh after completing the required legal formalities.
