Minister sets target of 5k accounts & Rs 30 crore deposits for every Cooperative Bank

The Cooperatives minister Dhan Singh Rawat has set a target of maintaining 5,000 accounts and deposits of Rs 30 crore for every cooperative bank of the State. The minister made this announcement during a review meeting with the officers of State Cooperative Bank, general managers and district managers of the cooperative banks of the State at UCF Bhawan on Friday.
Rawat asked all the managers to take the targets very seriously and warned of disciplinary action for failing to achieve them.
He said that a comprehensive membership drive will be launched on October 1 under which one lakh new members will be added in the cooperative societies. The objective of the drive is to make the reach of the Cooperative Banks broader, he said.
Exhorting the Cooperative Banks of the State to take active part in social works such as construction of schools the minister said they should ensure participation in activities which help in upliftment of the society.
In the meeting, Rawat appreciated the profit earning branches and expressed displeaure on the performance of branches such as Haridwar, Gopeshwar, Khatima and Bazpur which are incurring losses. He directed that a working plan to bring all these branches into profit should be prepared.
The minister advised the managers to reduce expenses, grant safe loans, reduce NPA and focus on increasing deposits.
