Multitudes of devotees thronged Nainital to attend the conclusion of the 123rd Ma Nanda Devi Mahotsav here on Friday. The idols of the goddesses Nanda and Sunanda were ritually carried in a procession which passed through various areas before ritual immersion.
Musical bands from various cities played along with the procession along with folk dances which were also performed. A large number of devotees from Nainital, nearby rural areas, Haldwani, Ramnagar, Kashipur and other places were present in the city on the occasion.
The fair organisers Shri Ram Sewak Sabha offered Prasad to the people while sub divisional magistrate KN Goswami, municipality executive officer Rohitash Sharma and other officials also paid their obeisance to the goddesses.
Superintendent of police Jagdish Chandra said that the police had made tight security arrangements for the nine-day event. Police and fire services personnel also accompanied the devotees during the procession, he said, adding that drones were also used to keep an eye on the situation.
Ram Sevak Sabha head Manoj Sah, general secretary Jagdish Bawadi and others were also present on the occasion.
