A delegation of State Mahila Congress, led by its president Jyoti Rautela, met the Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum expressing deep concern on the series of murders of women in Dehradun district.
Rautela said that the recent murders of young women in Rishikesh, Vikasnagar and Paltan Bazar area are extremely worrying. She said that these murders of women in the provincial capital of Uttarakhand have exposed the law and order situation in the State and the claims of the State government on women safety. Rautela said that if effective and strict action is not taken in time, such incidents will tarnish the image of Uttarakhand at the national level. The atmosphere of fear and insecurity created in the minds of women is a warning for any sensitive society. She demanded that all cases should be investigated impartially, transparently and promptly.
Rautela warned that the Mahila Congress will not compromise on the issue of women’s safety in the State and that if the administration does not take immediate and concrete action a state-wide agitation will be launched. The SSP Dehradun assured the delegation that action is being taken in all the cases and necessary steps will be taken by giving top priority to the safety of women.
