Thousands of residents of Jain plot, Vani Vihar in Adoiwala area of the provisional State capital are suffering from the apathy of the Peyjal Nigam. The department has dug the roads of the locality in order to lay a new drinking water pipeline, but the roads have not been repaired yet, even after the project is completed. Many residents have expressed their concern, stating that this situation has resulted in increased respiratory problems and other ailments due to the dust in the area. They warned that if the authorities do not resolve this issue soon, they will approach the district magistrate for assistance. It is worth noting that other areas are experiencing similar problems, but the authorities have yet to find a solution.
A resident of the said area, Kalam Singh Chauhan commented on the situation, saying that the pipeline work was completed about one and half months ago. Although the project has finished, the roads remain unrepaired, which has become a significant concern. Thousands of residents are affected, suffering from dust and dirt due to the damaged roads. Chauhan shared his experience of having to take his children to the doctor frequently for treatment of dust allergies and breathing difficulties. He said that they had also approached the chief minister’s portal for help, but no action has been taken. He stated that on Tuesday, some officials visited the colony, filled in the potholes, and assured the residents that the roads would be repaired soon. However, he added that if these assurances are not fulfilled, they will escalate the matter to the DM.
Executive engineer at Peyjal Nigam Deepak Nautiyal told The Pioneer that the contractor responsible for addressing the issue has been contacted and a penalty has been issued due to the delay in repairing the roads. He assured that if the contractor does not begin work soon, a new agency will be hired for the repairs. Nautiyal expressed confidence that the road repair issue will be sorted out quickly.
