The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya has directed officials to utilise 100 per cent of the budget allocated for the single women self-employment scheme. She said this at a review meeting held on Thursday.
Arya stated that the single women self-employment scheme is receiving an overwhelmingly positive response across all districts in the State, with over 1,600 applications submitted so far. She said that the goal is to provide benefits to 2,000 women in the first year and instructed officials to issue a notification for this initiative again.
Under this scheme, the government will provide grants of up to 75 per cent to single women for self-employment. Further, Arya directed officials to prepare a proposal to increase the financial support for Anganwadi workers from the Anganwadi welfare fund. She also instructed that essential facilities such as drinking water, toilets, electrification and gas connections be made available at all Anganwadi centres.
Arya informed that the contents of the Mahalakshmi Kit Scheme would also be enhanced to ensure that beneficiary women receive greater benefits. Further, the meeting included a review of the progress of other initiatives, including the Nanda Gaura Yojana (NGY) and the supplementary nutrition scheme.
