One woman dies from cervical cancer every nine minutes in India: Dr Pooja

In India, a woman dies of cervical cancer every nine minutes, highlighting the severity of the issue, according to the ALDAA Foundation president Dr Pooja. Addressing the media here on Friday, she spoke about the significant challenges faced by women in India, particularly the rising prevalence of cervical cancer.
She averred that the ALDAA Foundation has organised over 900 workshops focused on cervical cancer awareness and menstrual hygiene, which have successfully educated women about their health and provided crucial information. The statistics regarding cervical cancer deaths underscores the urgent need for awareness and early diagnosis.
The foundation has conducted workshops on the Protection from Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act of 2013 to promote a safe and respectful work environment for women. She informed that the organisation has successfully reached more than 90,000 women across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and is currently offering Pap smear tests in Uttar Pradesh. She informed that free Pap smear tests will soon be available in Dehradun, which will greatly benefit local women.
