Opposition leaders laud HC order on Panchayat elections

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The leader of Opposition (LoP) in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya has said that order of the Uttarakhand High Court in which it has stayed the decision of State Election Commission on allowing the candidates having names in the voter lists of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) to contest the Panchayat elections has vindicated the stand of the Congress party on the issue. He said that the returning officers should suspend the process of the scrutiny of the candidates and check the candidates having names in the voter lists of ULBs and village Panchayats.
Arya alleged that in order to benefit the BJP supported candidates, the ROs took decisions which are unconstitutional and are against the spirit of the Panchayat Raj Act. He said that it is high time to fix the responsibilities of the ROs who are taking unconstitutional and arbitrary decisions.
The state secretary of the CPI-ML, Indresh Maikhuri said that the HC order on Friday has shown how a mockery of the Panchayat elections has been made. He added that the court order has vindicated the stand of the communist parties.
He added that the State BJP government should also make it clear as on whose directive the secretary of the SEC was demolishing the Uttarakhand Panchayat Raj Act.
