Orthopaedic Implants facility made free at district hospital

The Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital will soon offer orthopaedic implants at no cost to patients under the Ayushman scheme, aiming to enhance the quality of services provided. This information was shared by the principal medical superintendent Dr Manu Jain.
Jain said that the district hospital currently does not offer orthopaedic implant services, such as rods, plates and other equipment. As a result, patients are compelled, often incurring significant expenses from elsewhere for these implants. He expressed that this is a concerning issue. To address this, the hospital administration has recently decided to implement a programme to provide orthopedic implants free of charge to patients.
Taking this into account, the advertisement for the tender regarding orthopaedic implants will be published soon. He said that the tender advertisement is expected to be released within the next two to three days, he said.
Jain also said that once the tender advertisements are simultaneously published, it is anticipated that companies interested in supplying the implants will reach out to the district hospital. Following this, they will select the company to which the orthopaedic implants tender will be given. The chosen company will supply the orthopaedic implants and under the Ayushman scheme, patients will ultimately receive the service at no cost. This initiative is expected to be launched in a month, he noted.
“With the introduction of orthopaedic implants provided to patients at no cost, patients and their caregivers will no longer need to travel elsewhere or incur additional expenses. Currently, the hospital performs 30 to 40 orthopaedic surgeries each month, with an additional 60 to 70 cases being referred due to a shortage of orthopaedic implants. This initiative could lead to an increase in the number of orthopaedic surgeries performed and reduce referrals. Additionally, patient visits to the inpatient department (IPD) are expected to rise,” he stated.
