Parents prefer online classes over holiday during heavy rainfall

Parents suggested that conducting online classes would be a preferable alternative to declaring a holiday on days when heavy rainfall is forecast. It is important to note that the monsoon season begins each year after the summer vacation ends. However, it has been observed over the years that, following a long summer break, when schools reopen, authorities often declare holidays for safety reasons during periods of heavy rain. In light of this, parents expressed partial satisfaction and requested that, instead of closing schools on specific rainy days, authorities should facilitate the implementation of online classes on those days when heavy rainfall is expected, ensuring that students’ schedules and studies are not disrupted.
A parent Jasmine Dhawan stated that the summer break for students has recently ended. However, she said that each year, following the long summer vacation, heavy rainfall tends to occur when school reopens, prompting authorities to announce a day off on that particular day. While she fully supports the authorities’ decision, she believes that offering online classes would be a more effective solution. She pointed out that studies were already disrupted during the summer break and continuing with online classes during the monsoon would help maintain academic progress.
Another parent, Priyansh Gaur also expressed his concerns regarding the authorities’ decision to close schools for the safety of children during heavy rain. He commended the decision but suggested that it would be more beneficial for schools to conduct online classes on such days. He emphasised that it takes considerable time for students to adjust back into a proper schedule after the summer break and maintaining their studies during this period is crucial.
The authorities should prioritise online classes on school leave days when there is heavy rainfall, according to him.
“Every year, the practice of declaring a leave is adhered to. However, I believe it’s particularly beneficial for children who encounter difficulties in mountainous areas. The approach of conducting online classes during the Covid-19 pandemic should also be implemented during the monsoon season to ensure that students are not adversely affected,” stated another parent, Heena Chauhan.
