The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun on Thursday installed an automatic plastic bottle crushing machine outside the corporation office to improve plastic waste management and protect the environment in the city. The mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and municipal commissioner Namami Bansal were present during the installation.
The civic body officials said that plastic bottle waste has become a major problem for cleanliness and environment. “To solve this issue, the municipal corporation plans to install around 50 such machines at important places, including markets, educational institutions, bus stands and parks, across the city, in phases.
These machines will crush used plastic bottles on the spot, reduce their size and make it easier to collect, transport and dispose of them in an environment- friendly way,” said a civic body officer, adding that the project would support the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
