Police nab man with ganja worth over Rs one crore

The Udham Singh Nagar police in a joint operation with the Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man with 4.34 quintals of ganja at the Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand border. The contraband is worth over Rs one crore, which is the largest quantity of ganja recovered so far in Uttarakhand, the senior superintendent of police of STF Navneet Singh Bhullar said.
During a Press conference in Dehradun on Friday, Bhullar said that the arrested man was identified as Raju Ali, son of Rehmat Ali, a resident of Bilwa village in Lakhimpur Kheri district, UP. He was apprehended by the STF Kumaon team in collaboration with Pulbhatta police in Udham Singh Nagar district. The ganja was being transported in a truck bearing registration number UK06CB 4534. He said, “The contraband was being brought from Jharkhand and was intended to be distributed in areas including Rudrapur, Gadarpur and Bazpur. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he works as a driver and usually transports goods from Uttarakhand to States like UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. Occasionally, he brings back drugs during his return journey.
He stated that this time he had delivered air conditioners from Rudrapur to Jharkhand and on his way back, collected ganja on the instructions of a person named Suresh Gupta.” The SSP said that the STF has identified several other individuals involved in drug distribution based on the information provided by the accused and further actions will be taken. He also stated that head constable Govind Singh played a key role in the operation.
