U’khand to set up vigilance mechanism in three power corporations

The Uttarakhand government has decided to set in place a vigilance mechanism in all the three power corporations (Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited, UJVN Limited and Power Transmission of Uttarakhand Limited) of the State.
An order regarding this was given by chief secretary Anand Bardhan while chairing the 125th board meeting of UPCL held at the State secretariat on Friday. In the meeting the CS directed that the three power corporations should prepare the vigilance mechanism in consultation with the secretary Vigilance. He directed that ERP should be implemented in the UPCL from January 1, 2026 and said that the review of the performance of the power corporations should be done on a quarterly basis.
In the meeting the CS also directed that secretary Finance should also participate in the board meeting and suggested that a person having technical background should be included in the board.
Bardhan said that efforts should be made to reduce the cost of the projects. The interest on the loans for the projects should be as low as possible and for this the officers should remain in constant touch with the finance agencies. He directed that approval of the board for next year’s budget should be taken before February- March.
Stressing on use of new technology the CS said tests at least two places should be done before shifting to new technology so that there is minimum financial loss in case of failure of new technology. Emphasising on adopting a professional approach, the CS said that techno-economic feasibility should be done before start of projects.
The meeting was attended by principal secretary R Meenaksi Sundaram, independent director Parag Gupta, BP Pandey, additional secretary Ahmed Iqbal, UPCL MD Anil Yadav, MD UJVNL Sandeep Singhal and MD PTCUL PC Dhyani and other officers.
