All government schools in Chakrata, Kalsi and Vikasnagar blocks of Dehradun district have been furnished under Project Utkarsh. The initiative will be extended to government schools in Sahaspur, Doiwala and Raipur blocks as well, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said.

He informed that this project focuses on improving basic infrastructure in government schools. Resources such as classroom furniture, classroom lighting, whiteboards, libraries, outdoor sports facilities and kitchens are prioritised under this project. Following these developments, every classroom in the district’s 168 secondary schools is set to receive a television screen.

The process to procure 884 large LED TVs has begun through the government procurement portal, as per Bansal. He stated that the district administration has secured a fund of Rs six crore for this initiative from CSR contributions, the District Mineral Trust and district-level planning resources. Besides this, ONGC and HUDCO have also supported the project. While ONGC provided furniture, HUDCO contributed LED screens and lighting for schools.

The DM stated that the district administration has also placed a focus on educational content in addition to infrastructure improvements. Every school is being directed to maintain newspapers, magazines, dictionaries, comics and biographies of national figures. The aim is to introduce students to general knowledge, current affairs and value-based learning alongside academics, he said.

He informed that the district magistrate has allocated Rs one crore as a flexible fund to be used directly by headmasters to address immediate school-level needs. Schools are also being asked to ensure access to clean drinking water, proper sanitation and maintenance of water tanks. The administration has instructed education officials to monitor quality mid-day meals and the overall upkeep of school facilities. The administration will soon make all these facilities available in all government schools of the district, he added.
