Representatives of PValue Analytics, the agency behind the National Annual Report and Index on Women’s Safety (NARI) 2025, will appear before Dehradun authorities on Monday to submit the complete dataset of their survey.
The agency had earlier failed to provide detailed information during a meeting with officials last week. The Dehradun police had issued a notice to the agency seeking clarity on the data that placed the city among the 10 most unsafe out of 31 surveyed. When the agency’s representative met the authorities last Monday, he only submitted broad information already available in the published report.
According to officials, the representative stated that the findings were based on computer-assisted telephone interviews with 400 women in Dehradun but did not explain how the respondents were chosen or verified.
The superintendent of police (Rural) Jaya Baluni, who is leading the inquiry, said that the authorities asked for specifics on how the participants’ contact details were obtained, how their residence in Dehradun was confirmed and whether the sample size truly reflected the city’s population. “We need these details to assess the reliability of the survey,” she said.
Baluni added that the agency requested a week’s time to compile the dataset and assured that members of its research and analysis team would be present in the next meeting. “If the data is accurate, we will act on the findings. But if irregularities are detected, necessary action will follow,” she stated.
The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) chairwoman Kusum Kandwal had also directed the agency to present the same information before the commission. The agency is now expected to provide the dataset and respond to questions from both the police and the commission in today’s meeting.
