PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Transport department has directed schools to operate only those vehicles that comply with Supreme Court and High Court directives and the Motor Vehicle Act, failing which action may be recommended to CBSE against their recognition.

The regional transport officer (Administration) of Dehradun division Sandeep Saini informed that a team led by transport tax officer Pragya Pant recently conducted inspections at five prominent schools of the city and during the inspection, some modified magic and private omni buses were found parked on school premises which were reportedly being used as school vans by vehicle owners.

He informed that in one of the schools, 62 vehicles were checked, out of which 26 belonged to the school, while the rest were being used for student transport. A total of 18 challans were issued for violations including expired fitness and insurance certificates, missing pollution certificates, pending taxes from 2016, 2017 and 2021 and violation of permit conditions. One vehicle was seized in Asharodi, he said.

The RTO instructed schools to ensure that no lapses take place in the safety of children and reiterated that only vehicles meeting all legal standards should be engaged for student transport. If schools fail to comply, the department will take all possible legal actions against offenders, he added.
